Karl Lagerfeld's French Villa Sold for €4.7 Million in Candle Auction
A villa near Paris once owned by late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld was sold on June 1 for €4.7 million in a traditional French "candle auction," where time is marked by two burning candles. Located in Louveciennes, the estate spans two hectares and features three houses, a pool, and a tennis court. Bought by Lagerfeld in 2010 and left unused after his 2019 death, the property was abandoned until its 2023 acquisition by a real estate firm. Known for privacy, the villa included a recreated version of Lagerfeld’s childhood bedroom and a large studio space. His muse, Amanda Harlech, described it as “the true version of himself.” Once owned by poet Leconte de Lisle and the Rothschilds, the villa underwent extensive renovations estimated to equal its sale price. In March 2024, Lagerfeld’s Paris apartment sold for €10 million—twice its asking price.
