WECAN's new report highlights how community-led, decentralized energy systems are vital for a just transition away from fossil fuels, ensuring equity, sustainability, and local empowerment in the renewable shift.

Launched during the Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice, the report highlights global case studies—from member-owned cooperatives in Spain to off-grid solar microgrids in Ladakh, India—demonstrating scalable, decentralized solutions. It critiques current economic systems, fossil fuel subsidies, and corporate utility models that hinder equitable transitions. WECAN stresses that the shift to renewable energy must avoid replicating the injustices of the fossil fuel era, prioritizing ecological health, Indigenous rights, and local empowerment. As COP30 approaches, the report urges governments, civil society, and businesses to collaborate on community-rooted solutions. It calls for an urgent, inclusive transition that serves both people and planet, making climate justice and energy democracy central to global climate action efforts.
