The change will also apply to eligible ongoing projects that already have active environmental clearances, subject to applicable conditions. The extended validity is intended to reduce the need for frequent renewal of approvals and facilitate smoother execution of large-scale port projects. The move comes as India focuses on expanding its maritime infrastructure and increasing port capacity over the coming decades. The country is targeting 10,000 MTPA of port capacity by 2047, in line with its broader long-term maritime development goals.
