India, Asian Nations Urged to Accelerate Renewable Energy Transition.

Climate activists call for stronger regional cooperation, a fair energy transition and greater climate finance commitments ahead of COP31.

Asian countries, including India, must accelerate the transition to renewable energy and strengthen regional cooperation to address the growing climate crisis, global climate activist Harjeet Singh said during Bangkok Climate Action Week 2026. Singh, global convenor of the Fill the Fund campaign and founding director of Satat Sampada Climate Foundation, urged developed nations to fulfil their climate finance commitments and take greater responsibility for inadequate climate action. He emphasised that Asian countries must lead by example by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and building a resilient, equitable and sustainable energy future. The event brought together policymakers, governments, climate experts and civil society representatives from South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific to discuss clean energy adoption and regional collaboration. Nithi Nesadurai, Director and Regional Coordinator of Climate Action Network Southeast Asia, highlighted the need to share successful renewable energy practices across the region. The discussions also focused on developing a just energy transition roadmap ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) in November 2026, reinforcing the importance of collective climate action and sustainable development.
