Government Reviews Bureau of Port Security Rollout to Strengthen Port Safety.

The Union Government has reviewed the progress of the Bureau of Port Security (BoPS), aiming to strengthen security across India’s major ports. During the review meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed that training for port security personnel should begin immediately using the existing infrastructure of the Port Security Training Institute (PSTI). He also instructed officials to create a comprehensive database of all security personnel deployed under the BoPS framework. The government has mandated that only licensed private security agencies and CISF-trained personnel will be responsible for port security. Additionally, all ports covered under the BoPS framework will be equipped with container scanning facilities to improve cargo security. The CISF has been asked to conduct trial runs of the proposed security arrangements at key ports, including Visakhapatnam Port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, and Mundra Port. Separately, the Sagarmala Finance Corporation reported sanctions exceeding ₹10,700 crore and disbursements of over ₹3,700 crore.
