Poltrona Frau has unveiled the Archibald Delicate Balance Limited Edition, an exclusive collaboration with acclaimed contemporary artist Shepard Fairey, creating a unique intersection of art, craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability. This special edition transforms the iconic Archibald armchair into a collectible design statement, reinforcing Poltrona Frau’s commitment to artistic experimentation and cultural dialogue.

The limited edition forms a key part of Poltrona Frau’s 2026 collection theme, True Over Time, a concept that celebrates authenticity, timeless relevance, and enduring craftsmanship. The collection was officially presented during Salone del Mobile in Milan, one of the world’s most prestigious design exhibitions.

This collaboration brings together two distinct creative disciplines—luxury furniture craftsmanship and contemporary street art—united by a shared focus on artistic expression and environmental responsibility. Shepard Fairey, globally recognized for his powerful graphic language and socially conscious artworks, has reimagined the Archibald armchair through his signature visual storytelling.

The artwork explores themes of nature, human responsibility, and the delicate balance of life cycles. At its center is a symbolic female figure representing Mother Nature, surrounded by birds and flowers—motifs deeply rooted in Fairey’s artistic vocabulary. These elements are carefully combined to create a compelling narrative about humanity’s relationship with nature and the urgent need for environmental awareness.

Originally designed in 2009 by renowned French designer Jean-Marie Massaud, the Archibald armchair has become one of Poltrona Frau’s most iconic creations, celebrated for its sculptural elegance, exceptional comfort, and Italian craftsmanship. This artistic reinterpretation elevates the armchair into a cultural artifact that merges design heritage with contemporary visual activism.

Only 200 numbered pieces of the Archibald Delicate Balance Limited Edition have been produced, making it a rare collector’s item. Each chair features a polished brass plaque and includes a certificate of authenticity personally signed by Shepard Fairey and Poltrona Frau CEO Nicola Coropulis.

The armchair is upholstered in Poltrona Frau’s advanced Pelle Frau ColorSphere Impact Less leather, produced using a more responsible tanning process that eliminates chromium and significantly reduces chemical use and water consumption. The leather carries Leather Working Group Gold certification, reinforcing the company’s sustainability standards.

For this limited edition, Poltrona Frau has introduced an innovative digital printing technique, applying multiple layers of color directly onto the leather to create enhanced depth, texture, and visual complexity. Selective 3D embossing has also been integrated into specific areas of the artwork, creating tactile relief effects that mirror the layered nature of Fairey’s original works.

The collaboration also extends beyond design into social and environmental impact. In partnership with Treedom, Poltrona Frau will plant two coffee trees in Guatemala for every Archibald Delicate Balance armchair purchased. The initiative supports a community of 80 Indigenous women in the Huehuetenango region, helping provide fair wages, strengthen economic independence, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
