UPMRC Marks Nine Years of Lucknow Metro, Celebrates 15 Crore Passenger Milestone

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) marked the ninth anniversary of Lucknow Metro operations with a special Metro Day programme at Hazratganj Metro Station, celebrating employees, passenger milestones and the Metro’s contribution to urban mobility in the city.

A major highlight of the event was Lucknow Metro reaching the milestone of 15 crore passenger journeys, reflecting the growing role of the Metro network in the city’s public transportation system.

Himanshi Kashyap Recognised as 15 Croreth Passenger

During the celebrations, Himanshi Kashyap was recognised as Lucknow Metro’s 15 croreth passenger and presented with a certificate of appreciation.

The event also recognised regular Metro users, with the top three GoSmart Card users being felicitated.

UPMRC Employees Honoured with MD’s Medal Awards

UPMRC recognised employees for their performance and contribution through the MD’s Medal Awards, with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals presented across different operational categories.

In the Project category, Amit Kumar Saini received the Gold Medal, Anand Kumar Jha received Silver and Mehfooz Ansari received Bronze.

Under Operations & Rolling Stock, Nayani Singh received Gold, Kamini Singh received Silver and Sumit Kumar received Bronze.

In the Maintenance category, Krishna Kant Pokhriyal was awarded Gold, Rizwan Khan received Silver and Renu Chaurasia received Bronze.

Among Supporting Staff, Naveen Yadav received Gold, Purna Majumdar received Silver, while Nihal Pathak and Ashwani Pandey received Bronze recognition.

Agra Metro Station Receives Best Kept Station Award

The celebrations also recognised achievements beyond Lucknow Metro.

The Taj Mahal (TJML) Metro Station of Agra Metro received the Best Kept Metro Station Award, highlighting its standards of upkeep and station management.

Students Present ‘From Pushpak to Metro’

Adding a cultural element to the Metro Day programme, students of Lucknow Public School presented a play titled “From Pushpak to Metro.”

The performance portrayed the evolution of transportation from ancient forms of mobility to modern Metro systems, connecting cultural history with the development of contemporary urban transportation.

UPMRC Highlights Operational Improvements

Addressing the gathering, UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar attributed Lucknow Metro’s nine-year journey to the dedication, teamwork and commitment of its employees.

According to figures shared by UPMRC, the organisation has recorded improvements across several operational and financial parameters.

These include:

30% higher passenger fare revenue per passenger
29% higher income per kilometre
95% higher non-fare revenue per kilometre
75% higher signalling reliability

The improvements reflect UPMRC’s focus on strengthening operational efficiency, system reliability and revenue performance while providing public transportation services.

East-West Corridor Remains a Key Focus

Looking ahead, UPMRC has reiterated its commitment to completing the East-West Corridor in a time-bound manner.

The corridor is expected to bring the historic areas of Old Lucknow onto the Metro network, improving accessibility and providing additional public transport connectivity for residents.

The expansion is expected to further strengthen the role of Metro services within Lucknow’s broader urban transportation network.

Nine Years of Lucknow Metro

The completion of nine years of operations, combined with the 15 crore passenger milestone, marks another stage in the development of Lucknow’s urban mobility infrastructure.
