Dhamra Port Shifts Entire Power Consumption to Renewable Energy.

Odisha’s major cargo hub now meets over 90 lakh units of monthly electricity demand from renewable sources.

Dhamra Port in Odisha, operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), has shifted its entire electricity consumption to renewable power from August 2026. According to the company, the move makes Dhamra the first large-scale private multi-cargo port in India to operate fully on renewable electricity. Handling 48.8 million tonnes of cargo in FY2025-26, the port now sources more than 90 lakh units of renewable electricity every month, with annualised consumption exceeding 108 GWh. Renewable power supports round-the-clock operations, including cargo handling, storage, rail-linked activities and other critical infrastructure. The transition combines captive renewable generation, third-party access and green-power procurement. Around 25–30% of the renewable electricity comes from APSEZ’s captive hybrid power plant at Khavda, Gujarat, while 10–15% is sourced through third-party access. The remaining requirement is met through a Green Consumer arrangement. The initiative forms part of APSEZ’s long-term Net-Zero strategy, aimed at reducing emissions associated with purchased electricity and improving the port’s environmental performance.
