Odisha is set to receive a major boost to rural connectivity after the Centre approved 827 road projects worth ₹1,698 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV). Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit Odisha on Friday to formally launch the rural roads package. During a programme in Rayagada, Chouhan will hand over the PMGSY-IV approval letter to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, following which projects will be inaugurated and foundation stones laid jointly. According to the Ministry of Rural Development, the projects will cover a total length of 1,701.84 km and provide first-time all-weather road connectivity to 898 habitations. The initiative is expected to significantly improve access to schools, healthcare facilities, markets and other essential services, while accelerating socio-economic development in rural and remote areas of the state.
