₹70,000-crore greenfield project to strengthen India’s steel capacity and self-reliance.

AM/NS India Lays Foundation for Mega Steel Plant in Andhra Pradesh.

AM/NS India has laid the foundation stone for an integrated greenfield steel plant at Anakapalli, marking the first such project in India in nearly a decade. The company will invest about ₹70,000 crore in the first phase to build a capacity of 8.2 million tonnes, with steel production expected to begin in the first quarter of 2029. AM/NS is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, and already operates a 9+ million tonne plant in Hazira, Gujarat. Executive Chairman Lakshmi Mittal described the project as a milestone in his five-decade-long career. Chairman Aditya Mittal highlighted Anakapalli’s coastal location and Odisha ore connectivity as key advantages. In phase two, capacity will rise to 17.8 million tonnes, with total investment touching ₹1.35 lakh crore and generating nearly 1 lakh jobs.
