India Imposes Five-Year Anti-Dumping Duty on Vietnamese Steel to Protect the Domestic Market.
India has imposed a five-year anti-dumping duty on hot-rolled flat steel products imported from Vietnam, aiming to curb the rerouting of cheaper Chinese steel through Vietnam and protect domestic manufacturers. The duty, set at $121.55 per tonne, follows an investigation by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which found that Vietnamese exports were being sold below normal value, causing injury to Indian steel producers. However, steel manufactured by Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel JSC has been exempted. The investigation, initiated on a complaint by the Indian Steel Association on behalf of major producers JSW Steel and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, covered the period from January 2023 to March 2024. Authorities concluded that dumped imports posed a continuing threat to domestic industry. The affected steel products are widely used in automotive manufacturing, oil and gas pipelines, engineering, construction, fabrication, capital goods, and process industries.
