Adani Defence & Aerospace is in talks with global engine manufacturers to establish domestic maintenance capabilities, targeting an agreement within 18 months. The Adani Group is planning to enter India's aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector to strengthen domestic aviation capabilities and reduce dependence on overseas service centres. Speaking at the Aviation India 2026 Summit in New Delhi, Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said the company is in discussions with leading global engine manufacturers, including GE, Safran and Pratt & Whitney. It aims to finalise a firm agreement within the next 18 months. The proposed facility will primarily focus on engines powering narrowbody passenger aircraft operated by Indian airlines. Currently, airlines send most engines overseas for major maintenance and repairs. Rajvanshi highlighted that developing engine MRO infrastructure is essential to building a strong domestic aviation ecosystem. India's aviation sector has faced significant operational disruptions due to engine-related issues, particularly involving Pratt & Whitney's geared turbofan engines. The initiative could strengthen India's aerospace manufacturing and maintenance capabilities.
