PM Modi Inaugurates New Guwahati Airport Terminal, Boosting Northeast Aviation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati, marking one of India’s fastest airport terminal projects from design unveiling to commissioning. The terminal’s design was revealed in February at the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit and is expected to begin operations by February 2026, reflecting compressed delivery timelines supported by a comprehensive ORAT programme. Developed by Guwahati International Airport and operated by Adani Airport Holdings, the terminal—named The Bamboo Orchids—draws inspiration from Assam’s kopou phool and regional bamboo varieties, using around 140 metric tonnes of locally sourced bamboo. Equipped with DigiYatra-enabled processing and smart check-in systems, it is designed to handle 13.1 million passengers annually by 2032. In FY25, Guwahati airport handled 6.5 million passengers, ranking as India’s 10th busiest airport. The broader ₹5,000 crore development plan includes cargo and MRO facilities, strengthening connectivity, trade, and employment across the Northeast under the Act East policy.
