VA Tech Wabag Wins ₹1,000-Crore+ Chennai Water Grid Project.

VA Tech Wabag Ltd has secured a mega contract worth over ₹1,000 crore from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to develop a city-wide looped water transmission network in Chennai. The project is part of the Asian Development Bank–funded Chennai Climate Resilient Water Security and Sewerage Project and will be executed through a joint venture led by Wabag. The scope includes construction of bulk transmission pipelines, feeder mains, pumping stations and underground tanks, along with integration into a central SCADA system. The project will be completed within 54 months, followed by 10 years of operation and maintenance. Designed as a ring main system, the water grid will interconnect pumping stations and service reservoirs, improving pressure management, routing flexibility and operational reliability during normal and emergency conditions. Commenting on the win, Shailesh Kumar said the project will strengthen Chennai’s long-term water security through resilient infrastructure, digital monitoring and smart network management.
