Alstom Delivers 500th Electric Locomotive to Indian Railways

Alstom has delivered its 500th electric locomotive, part of a €3.5 billion contract to supply 800 Prima T8 WAG12B locomotives to Indian Railways. Built at Alstom’s Madhepura facility in Bihar, these 12,000 HP (9 MW) locomotives can haul 6,000-tonne freight rakes at speeds of up to 120 km/h. The project, with nearly 90% localisation, is the largest FDI in India’s railway sector. Equipped with IGBT-based propulsion and regenerative braking, the e-locomotives enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The milestone highlights Alstom's role in modernizing India's rail network, boosting freight capacity and supporting economic growth.
