Anil Sharma-led firm strengthens Indian-flagged fleet amid soaring VLCC freight rates.

Lila Global Acquires Oil Supertanker from Japan’s MOL for $58–59 Million.

Lila Global, the ship-owning arm of Anil Sharma-led GMS Inc., has acquired a 20-year-old very large crude carrier (VLCC) from Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines for an estimated $58–59 million. The vessel, earlier named Kasagisan, is being re-registered as Lila Vadinar under the Indian flag through Lila Global’s GIFT City-based unit in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City. Built in 2006 with a capacity of over 302,000 dwt, the tanker is among the oldest non-sanctioned VLCCs sold in the market. The acquisition comes as VLCC freight rates surge following geopolitical tensions in West Asia, with spot rates far exceeding recent averages. Lila Vadinar becomes Lila Global’s second Indian-flagged VLCC in under two months, reinforcing its strategy to build India-linked energy shipping capacity while tapping a strong tanker market cycle.
