Apex court rejects villagers’ plea over 108 hectares in Kachchh.

No Status Quo on Adani Port Land, Supreme Court Clarifies.

The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday clarified that it had not ordered any status quo on 108 hectares of grazing land allotted to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone by the Gujarat government. The clarification came while dismissing applications filed by villagers from the Kachchh region, who claimed that an oral order passed on January 27 had directed maintenance of the status quo on the land. A bench comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and Atul S Chandurkar noted that there was no reference to any status quo in the written order and that the matter stood disposed of by the Gujarat High Court. The court observed that draft orders dictated in court are subject to correction before final signing and imposed a symbolic cost of ₹2,000 each on the applicants for filing the clarification pleas.
