Early traffic driven by holiday travel as airlines test operations.

Navi Mumbai International Airport Handles Over 21,000 Passengers in First Week.

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) recorded passenger traffic of over 21,000 in the first four days of its commercial operations, reflecting a steady start during the year-end holiday period. Between December 25 and 28, the airport handled 21,112 passengers, with departures at 11,183 exceeding arrivals of 9,929, indicating stronger outbound leisure travel. Traffic was largely concentrated over the opening weekend, with more than 11,000 passengers travelling on December 27 and 28 alone. Flight activity remains limited in the initial phase, with around 130 flights operated over four days across key domestic destinations including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Goa and Chennai. NMIA is currently operating for 12 hours daily and can handle up to 24 scheduled departures across 13 destinations. Aviation experts say early trends are encouraging but should be viewed cautiously, as initial traffic is typically leisure-led. Cumulative passenger numbers have since crossed 25,000, while international operations are likely to commence sometime in 2026, subject to regulatory clearances.
