India’s Highway Toll Collections Cross ₹70,000 Crore in FY26, More Than Double in Four Years.

India’s toll collections from national highways and expressways have more than doubled over the past four financial years, increasing from ₹33,929 crore in FY22 to ₹70,278 crore in FY26. The sharp rise reflects the rapid expansion of the country’s highway infrastructure, with the number of operational toll plazas growing from 733 to 1,209 across states and union territories. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari shared the figures in a written reply to a question raised by Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge in the Rajya Sabha. The FY26 collections also include ₹1,795 crore generated through the annual pass scheme for private non-commercial vehicles, introduced in August 2025. The figures highlight growing road usage, improved toll collection systems, and the government's continued investment in expanding and modernising India's highway network.
