From record cargo volumes to cruise tourism and waterfront redevelopment, MbPA is transforming into a modern maritime hub.
Mumbai Port Redefines the Blue Economy with Smart, Sustainable Growth.
Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is reshaping India's Blue Economy by combining world-class logistics, sustainable development, and urban renewal. In FY 2025-26, the port handled a record 75.15 million tonnes of cargo, up 9.5% year-on-year, while targeting 80 million tonnes. Leveraging the Major Port Authorities Act, 2021, MbPA has adopted digital technologies, automated cargo handling, and offshore lightering to improve efficiency and reduce city congestion. The newly operational Mumbai International Cruise Terminal now handles over half of India's ocean cruise passengers, while the upcoming Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina will promote luxury marine tourism. The port is also driving waterfront redevelopment with convention centres, commercial spaces, hotels, and public promenades, alongside a major shipbuilding park in Maharashtra. Green initiatives, including solar power, EV infrastructure, and coastal cargo movement, further position MbPA as a global model for sustainable urban-maritime development and economic growth.
