Green Energy Corridor-III: ₹1.86 Lakh Crore Push to Strengthen India’s Renewable Energy Grid.
135 GW renewable energy evacuation target and 50 GWh battery storage to support grid reliability and domestic clean-energy manufacturing.
135 GW renewable energy evacuation target and 50 GWh of battery storage to support grid reliability and domestic clean-energy manufacturing. The Union Cabinet’s approval of the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III (GEC-III) marks a major step towards strengthening India’s power transmission infrastructure and accelerating its renewable energy transition. Approved on September 30, 2026, the programme has a total outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore, including ₹1,36,378 crore for intra-State transmission infrastructure and ₹50,000 crore for 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Central financial support of ₹54,082 crore will help reduce transmission costs for consumers. Targeted for completion by FY2032-33, GEC-III aims to facilitate the evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy across States and Union Territories. The initiative integrates battery storage with transmission planning to manage fluctuations in solar and wind generation, reduce power curtailment and improve electricity availability beyond daylight hours. It is also expected to boost demand for domestic manufacturers of solar equipment, batteries, transformers, conductors and switchgear, while creating employment in construction, manufacturing and grid operations. The programme will help bridge the gap between renewable energy generation and reliable power delivery.
