Attacks on Merchant Shipping Unacceptable: Jaishankar Amid West Asia Tensions.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has strongly condemned attacks on merchant shipping, calling them “completely unacceptable” amid rising tensions in West Asia. Speaking at the AZEC Plus online meeting convened by Japan, Jaishankar underlined India’s commitment to the safe and unimpeded transit of maritime shipping and the need to protect global energy supply chains. According to MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the minister emphasised that global economic growth depends on unconstrained energy markets and said India would work with like-minded partners to enhance supply chain resilience. The remarks come amid concerns over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and LNG supplies. Jaishankar also held discussions with his Israeli and Australian counterparts, while India continues diplomatic engagement, advocating de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy to restore stability in the region.
