India’s InvIT AUM Rises 13.7% to ₹7.3 Lakh Crore in Q1
Strong cash flows and growing investor confidence drive steady growth in India’s infrastructure investment trusts.
India’s Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) recorded assets under management (AUM) of ₹7.3 lakh crore during the April-June quarter, marking a 13.7% year-on-year increase, according to the Bharat InvITs Association (BIA). Roads accounted for the largest share at 44%, followed by optical fibre at 30%. India currently has 28 registered InvITs, including nine publicly listed trusts. These investment vehicles allow individual and institutional investors to invest in operational infrastructure assets generating regular cash flows. Total distributions to unitholders since the inception of InvITs have crossed ₹97,000 crore. During April-June, distributions rose 15% year-on-year to ₹5,923 crore, reflecting strong underlying asset performance. With a unitholder base of 6.53 lakh, InvITs are expected to play an important role in infrastructure financing and asset monetisation under the government’s National Monetisation Pipeline 2.0 target of ₹16.72 lakh crore.
