Major infrastructure push aims to strengthen arterial corridors and improve commuter safety.

Delhi PWD Plans ₹626 Crore Citywide Road Upgrade to Tackle Potholes.

The Delhi Public Works Department has announced a ₹626 crore comprehensive road upgrade programme aimed at fixing potholes and strengthening key transport corridors across Delhi. The initiative focuses on repairing damaged stretches, improving road surfaces, and enhancing durability on high-traffic arterial and sub-arterial roads that face heavy wear during monsoons. Officials said the project will use improved construction materials and stricter quality control measures to ensure longer-lasting roads and reduced maintenance costs. The upgrade plan is expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance commuter safety, and improve connectivity between residential, commercial, and industrial zones. Priority corridors include routes linking major intersections, flyovers, and public transport hubs. The move comes amid growing public concern over road conditions and recurring pothole-related accidents. Once implemented, the programme is expected to significantly improve urban mobility and reinforce Delhi’s road infrastructure to better withstand extreme weather and rising traffic volumes.
