O&M Model to Drive India’s Port Monetisation — Vizag Port Chairman Angamuthu

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Chairman M. Angamuthu highlighted the Operation & Maintenance (O&M) model as a game-changer for monetising India’s port assets. Under the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) and Maritime India Vision 2030, the model ensures private participation without losing public ownership, boosting efficiency and reducing risk. VPA’s success with O&M projects like EQ-1, EQ-1A, and EQ-10 has enhanced productivity, reduced vessel turnaround times, and increased cargo throughput. The MPA Act, 2021, has empowered ports with tariff-setting freedom, enabling Vizag Port to compete effectively with private ports like Gangavaram. VPA is also progressing major projects — from Mulapeta Port and Bahuda Muhan Port (Odisha) to participation in the Galathea Bay Transhipment Port — reinforcing India’s maritime vision for growth, efficiency, and global competitiveness.
