Prime Minister Narendra Modi will relaunch construction of Andhra Pradesh's greenfield capital Amaravati on May 2, marking a revival of the project stalled since 2019.

Initially launched by the TDP government in 2015, Amaravati saw minimal progress under the YSR Congress regime. With the TDP-led NDA back in power, full-scale construction is set to resume, backed by projected investments of ₹1 lakh crore. The city’s development includes nine thematic zones, enhanced connectivity, and campuses by XLRI, BITS Pilani, and Ratan Tata Innovation Hub. PM Modi will also lay the foundation for a ₹21,460 crore missile testing facility in Krishna district. The Centre sees Amaravati as central to its Viksit Bharat 2047 vision for innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
