Project to significantly enhance liquid cargo handling capacity and port efficiency.
Centre Clears ₹438 Crore Redevelopment of Berth 9 at New Mangalore Port.
The Centre has approved a ₹438 crore redevelopment project for Berth 9 at the New Mangalore Port, aimed at strengthening India’s liquid cargo handling infrastructure. The project involves modernising the existing berth with advanced loading and unloading systems, upgraded pipelines, and improved safety mechanisms to handle petroleum, chemicals and other liquid bulk cargo more efficiently. Once completed, the redeveloped berth is expected to increase throughput capacity, reduce vessel turnaround time, and support rising energy and industrial demand in the region. Officials said the upgrade aligns with the government’s broader port-led development strategy to improve logistics efficiency and reduce supply chain costs. The redevelopment will also enhance the port’s competitiveness along the west coast and support trade growth in Karnataka and neighbouring states. The project is expected to generate employment during construction and operations, while strengthening New Mangalore Port’s role as a key gateway for liquid cargo on India’s western seaboard.
