Propelling Innovation Together — Indo-Japan Maritime Ties Set Sail
Japan Ship Machinery Association Eyes India for Maritime Partnerships.
The Japan Ship Machinery and Equipment Association (JSMEA) has initiated talks with the Shipyards Association of India (SAI) to explore collaboration opportunities, including a potential business-matching event in India. Representing 256 leading Japanese marine technology firms and 75 supporting organisations, JSMEA specialises in ship propulsion engines, auxiliary machinery, deck equipment, and advanced navigational systems. The move comes as India ramps up efforts to strengthen its domestic shipbuilding industry through financial incentives and policy reforms. A spokesperson from SAI expressed optimism about “exciting prospects” for enhanced Indo-Japan maritime collaboration. JSMEA’s interest highlights Japan’s intent to support India’s maritime growth by sharing cutting-edge engineering expertise, boosting technology transfer, and enabling cross-border innovation. With Japan’s global leadership in marine systems and India’s rising demand for shipbuilding infrastructure, this strategic partnership could significantly advance India's capabilities in maritime manufacturing, supporting its ambition to become a top-five shipbuilding nation by 2047.
