Tata Sons Begins Search for N Chandrasekaran’s Successor.

With N. Chandrasekaran set to step down in 2027, Tata Group's leadership succession enters a crucial phase.

As Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran prepares to step down at the end of his term in February 2027, the Tata Group has begun one of its most significant leadership succession processes. Under Article 118 of the company's Articles of Association, a five-member selection committee will be formed, with key nominations from the Dorabji Tata Trust, Ratan Tata Trust, and the Tata Sons Board. Although Noel Tata has been widely discussed as a potential successor, existing governance rules prevent him from simultaneously chairing both Tata Trusts and Tata Sons. Attention has therefore shifted to experienced insiders, including Tata Steel CEO T.V. Narendran, Tata Motors executive Shailesh Chandra, Group CFO Saurabh Agrawal, Indian Hotels CEO Puneet Chhatwal, and TCS CEO K. Krithivasan. The board now has several months to identify a leader capable of guiding the 158-year-old conglomerate into its next phase of growth and transformation.
