The Cabinet has approved the ₹6,282.32 crore Kosi Mechi Intra-State Link Project in Bihar under.
The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (PMKSY-AIBP). It includes ₹3,652.56 crore as central assistance and is scheduled for completion by March 2029. The project aims to reroute excess Kosi River water to the Mahananda basin by extending the Eastern Kosi Main Canal (EKMC) from RD 41.30 km to RD 117.50 km. It will provide irrigation to 2,10,516 hectares in Araria, Purnea, Kishanganj, and Katihar districts during the Kharif season and restore supply to 1.57 lakh hectares of the existing EKMC command area. Around 2,050 million cubic meters of surplus water will be utilized.
