The state accounts for nearly one-third of PM Surya Ghar subsidies and targets a 1 MTPA green hydrogen ecosystem by 2029. NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, with approximately 9.4 lakh households solarised and 3,147 MW of rooftop solar capacity installed, Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik said. Speaking at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026, Naik said the state accounts for nearly one-third of the total subsidy released nationally under the scheme. Installation timelines for 50,000 systems have also been reduced from 270 days to just 20 days. The state is targeting a 1 million tonne per annum (MTPA) green hydrogen ecosystem by 2029, supported by pilot projects in Gorakhpur and Rampur. It also has 42 operational compressed biogas plants. Additionally, Uttar Pradesh has commissioned 3,098 MW of utility-scale solar capacity, with another 6,295 MW under implementation. Rising electricity demand will require stronger grid infrastructure and renewable energy integration.
