185 MW solar plant with battery storage strengthens state’s clean energy push.
Bihar Commissions First Phase of ₹2,800 Crore Kajra Solar Power Project.
In a significant boost to Bihar’s renewable energy ambitions, the state government has commissioned the first phase of the Kajra Solar Power Project in Lakhisarai district. Under this phase, a 185 MW solar power plant along with a 254 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system has been completed at an estimated cost of ₹2,800 crore. The project aims to increase the share of clean energy in Bihar’s overall power mix. According to Bihar Energy Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, the associated transmission line and transformer facilities have been successfully energised, enabling smooth power evacuation. The integrated battery energy storage system will allow the plant to supply uninterrupted electricity for four to five hours during peak demand periods. In the second phase, a 116 MW solar plant with a 241 MWh battery storage system is under construction at an estimated cost of ₹1,055 crore. The entire project is targeted for completion by January 2027. Once fully commissioned, the Kajra Solar Power Plant will have a total capacity of 301 MW and a combined battery storage capacity of 495 MWh.
