Gujarat Adds Nearly 2 GW Renewables in April, Strengthens Clean Energy Lead.

Gujarat added nearly 2 GW of renewable energy capacity in April, reinforcing its position as India’s leading clean energy state. According to data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Gujarat’s cumulative renewable capacity rose to 49,115 MW from 47,178 MW in March, marking a monthly addition of 1,937 MW. The growth has been driven by large-scale solar and wind projects, along with steady expansion in rooftop solar and hybrid installations. Shalini Aggarwal, MD of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), said the state is witnessing strong momentum across both utility-scale and consumer-led renewable projects. While Rajasthan continues to lead in solar capacity alone, Gujarat’s strength lies in its diversified renewable mix, particularly wind energy. The state has also progressed under the PM-KUSUM scheme and introduced demand-side incentives, including time-of-use rebates, rooftop solar benefits, and upcoming focus on battery storage and pumped hydro, ensuring reliability even during peak demand periods.
