Empowering education with solar light — brighter futures, cleaner tomorrow.
PM SHRI Schools in Rural Karnataka to Be Powered by Solar Energy
In a major step toward sustainable education, four PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) government schools in rural Karnataka will soon be powered by solar energy. The initiative, sanctioned by the education department under Samagra Shikshana Karnataka, aims to provide a consistent and clean energy supply, overcoming frequent power cuts that hamper teaching. Each school will receive 5 kW solar systems, costing approximately ₹3–4 lakh. The selected schools are located in Yaliwal, Galagihulakoppa, Amargol, and Alanavar. These schools already feature smart boards and computers, and the addition of solar panels will ensure uninterrupted learning. Headmistress Vijayamala Korav of PM SHRI HPS No. 2, Alanavar, highlighted that students will now also learn the value of renewable energy. The project not only empowers education but also promotes energy independence and environmental awareness in remote regions.
