Government eyes 5 MMT annual output by 2030 to make India a global hydrogen hub.
India’s Green Hydrogen Capacity Touches 8,000 TPA Under National Mission.
India has commissioned around 8,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen production capacity as of February 2026 under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023, Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik informed the Rajya Sabha. The country is targeting green hydrogen production of 5 million metric tonnes (MMT) per annum by 2030, aiming to emerge as a global hub for production, usage and exports. The minister said ₹700 crore has been allocated under the mission so far, of which ₹250.12 crore has been utilised. In FY26 alone, ₹203.75 crore has been spent out of an allocation of ₹300 crore. Competitive bidding under the mission has discovered green hydrogen supply prices of about ₹387–397 per kg for refiners such as Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. A World Bank Group report notes renewable power accounts for 50–70% of production costs, underscoring the importance of low-cost clean energy.
