India Targets 7.5–8 GW Wind Energy Capacity Addition in FY27: MNRE.

Strong domestic manufacturing capacity and offshore wind opportunities could support the sector’s next phase of growth.

India is expected to add 7.5–8 GW of wind energy capacity in FY27, according to Rajesh Kulhari, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Speaking at the EU-India Wind Energy Business Summit 2026 at WindEnergy Hamburg, Kulhari said India added more than 6 GW of wind capacity in FY26. India currently has around 24 GW of annual wind manufacturing capacity, significantly above domestic deployment requirements, creating opportunities to expand exports. Kulhari said Indian companies exported wind components worth approximately ₹12,000 crore last year. He also highlighted scope for stronger cooperation between Indian and European companies, particularly in offshore wind energy. India is preparing to develop its first offshore wind projects and could benefit from European experience and technology. With more than 7,000 km of coastline and offshore wind speeds exceeding 10 metres per second in parts of Tamil Nadu, India sees potential for commercially viable offshore projects and increased renewable power generation.
