Government Extends BIS Certification Deadline for Large Solar Inverters to December 31.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the deadline for mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification of solar photovoltaic inverters with capacities above 200 kW to December 31, 2026. The previous deadline was June 30. According to a notification issued on July 3, manufacturers can continue supplying utility-scale solar inverters under a self-certification mechanism until the new deadline or until further orders. The extension has been granted due to the limited availability of accredited testing facilities for high-capacity solar inverters. To qualify, manufacturers must possess valid IEC certificates that comply with the prescribed Indian standards and obtain test reports from accredited laboratories. The move is expected to prevent supply disruptions for large-scale solar projects while providing manufacturers additional time to complete the BIS certification process. It also supports the continued growth of India’s renewable energy sector without delaying ongoing utility-scale solar installations.
