Move to strengthen India’s solar manufacturing chain and reduce import dependence.

Tata Power to Build India’s Largest 10 GW Solar Wafers and Ingots Plant.

Tata Power plans to establish India’s largest solar wafers and ingots manufacturing plant with a 10-gigawatt (GW) capacity, marking a major step toward full vertical integration in solar manufacturing. The facility will produce foundational materials for solar cells, complementing Tata Power’s existing 4.9 GW cell and module capacity. CEO Praveer Sinha said the company is seeking federal and state financial support for the project, with a final investment decision expected in two months. The initiative aligns with the government’s push for domestic production of ingots and wafers to reduce dependence on Chinese imports and strengthen India’s renewable supply chain. Currently, Adani Group operates a 2 GW plant in this space. Additionally, Tata Power is exploring entry into nuclear power generation, as India targets 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047, up from the present 8 GW, signalling the company’s broader clean energy ambitions.
