Renewable energy push seen as key to energy security and Aatmanirbharta.
Green Hydrogen Blending Can Cut Gas, Fuel Imports: Prahlad Joshi.
Blending green hydrogen in city gas distribution and mobility can significantly reduce India’s dependence on imported fuels, Union renewable energy minister Prahlad Joshi said on Monday. Speaking at an agreement-signing event for green ammonia developers and buyers under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), Joshi said pilot projects have already proven the technical feasibility of hydrogen blending. Wherever possible, if green hydrogen is blended, it can reduce the import of fuel,” he said, adding that the fertiliser sector has already demonstrated the model’s effectiveness due to existing demand and infrastructure, delivering immediate impact. Joshi emphasised that India is pursuing a coordinated approach rather than isolated initiatives, integrating multiple clean-energy solutions to cut import dependence and build domestic capabilities. In the current global environment, he said, energy security and resilient supply chains have become critical, especially in sectors reliant on imported natural gas and ammonia. Green hydrogen and green ammonia, he added, are central to India’s push for Aatmanirbharta and long-term energy security.
