Affordable Renewable Power Key to India’s Green Hydrogen Growth: S&P Global Energy.

Stronger infrastructure, policy certainty and industrial demand are seen as critical for scaling green hydrogen.

India’s green hydrogen sector will depend on affordable renewable power, stronger infrastructure and sustained industrial demand, according to S&P Global Energy. The assessment was highlighted on the second day of the Horizons Clean Energy Expansion India 2026 conference, which concluded on Friday. S&P Global Energy said the country needs reliable and cost-competitive renewable electricity to support the production of green hydrogen at scale. Alongside power availability, the sector will require stronger electricity grids and maritime infrastructure to facilitate production, transportation and exports. The organisation also highlighted the importance of greater policy certainty to support long-term investments across the emerging hydrogen ecosystem. Sustained demand from industrial users will be another key factor in creating a viable market. India has identified green hydrogen as an important component of its clean-energy transition, particularly for hard-to-abate sectors. The combination of competitive renewable power, infrastructure development, supportive policies and industrial offtake will determine how quickly the sector can scale.
