India’s Solar Component Market Could More Than Double to $7.8 Billion by 2028: CEEW.
Timely manufacturing capacity expansion, assured demand and stronger quality standards will be critical to reducing import dependence and strengthening domestic supply chains.
Timely manufacturing capacity expansion, assured demand and stronger quality standards will be critical to reducing import dependence and strengthening domestic supply chains. India’s solar panel component market could grow from $3.6 billion in September 2026 to $7.8 billion by March 2028, according to a study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The study covers six key module components: solar glass, aluminium frames, copper ribbons, encapsulants, backsheets and junction boxes. It highlighted that timely commissioning of manufacturing plants and demand certainty will be essential to achieving this growth. India’s module manufacturing capacity reached 228.5 GW in September 2026, while several components remain dependent on imports, particularly from China. CEEW recommended dedicated customs codes, uniform testing standards and bringing all six components under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM). It also proposed extending Domestic Content Requirements to these components from January 2028 to strengthen domestic manufacturing and supply-chain resilience.
