Parking, Redevelopment, Voting Rights and Committee Powers Among Key Concerns.

Maharashtra’s Cooperation Department has received more than 750 emails containing over 5,000 objections and suggestions on the proposed 2026 model bylaws for cooperative housing societies. The draft framework includes 192 model bylaws covering areas such as parking, society charges, redevelopment, voting rights and managing committee powers. Officials said the representations reflect significant participation from housing societies, residents and other stakeholders seeking clearer procedures and practical changes. The department is currently examining the submissions before preparing the final bylaws. Key suggestions include clearer rules for redevelopment, voting and electoral rights, electronic elections, and leave-and-licence arrangements. Federations have also sought greater clarity on the powers, duties and accountability of administrators appointed to manage societies. Parking provisions have emerged as another major concern, with stakeholders seeking alignment with MOFA, RERA and rules governing common areas and parking spaces. Other recommendations include simplifying duplicate share certificate procedures, updating records after gazette name changes and correcting drafting and cross-referencing errors.
