MahaRERA has launched a comprehensive verification of Occupation Certificates (OCs) for 3,699 lapsed real estate projects, following complaints of forged documents used for project registration.
Planning authorities across Maharashtra have been asked to confirm the authenticity of uploaded OCs within 10 days. If no response is received, MahaRERA will treat the OCs as genuine. The responsibility for any future discrepancies will lie with the planning authority. This move aims to curb fraud, ensure project legitimacy, and boost homebuyer confidence. The projects span regions like Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and Nagpur. Experts believe this step will strengthen regulatory oversight, enhance transparency, and promote accountability in Maharashtra's real estate sector, especially after past scams like the Kalyan-Dombivli fraud.
