Milestone strengthens Maharashtra’s leadership in solar-powered irrigation.
MSEDCL Sets World Record with 45,911 Solar Pump Installations in One Month.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has achieved a global milestone by installing 45,911 solar agricultural pumps in just one month, earning recognition from the Guinness Book of World Records. The certificate was presented in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Shendra MIDC’s Auric City ground. Fadnavis said the achievement reinforces Maharashtra’s position as India’s leader in off-grid solar pump deployment under PM-KUSUM and the Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana, helping ensure irrigation security, higher farm productivity, and reduced dependence on conventional energy. MSEDCL attributed the record to a farmer-centric approach, prioritising installations in water-stressed regions and enforcing strict service-level agreements to resolve grievances within three days, with automatic escalation for pending cases. Multiple installation teams, pre-positioned inventory, and digital monitoring enabled efficient rollout. Pump capacity was allotted based on land size, ensuring fair access for small, marginal, and large farmers alike.
