Odisha Lok Bhavan Becomes India’s First IGBC Platinum-Certified Green Campus.

Campus scores 88/100 with 635 kWp solar capacity, electric vehicles and a strong focus on sustainable infrastructure.

Odisha Lok Bhavan has become the first Governor House in India to receive the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum certification under its Green Campus Rating System. The campus scored 88 out of 100 points, earning the highest rating under the revised system launched in July 2024. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati received the certification and highlighted the campus’s green cover, renewable energy generation and use of electric vehicles. Lok Bhavan currently has an installed solar power capacity of 635 kWp and has adopted an all-electric official carcade. The campus is also planning to install small windmills to further expand renewable energy use. The Governor said the initiative demonstrates the potential for institutions to adopt cleaner energy and sustainable practices. The green transition is also planned for Lok Bhavan in Puri, where a 100-kW solar power plant has been proposed as an initial step towards securing green certification. The achievement is expected to encourage other government institutions and universities to embrace sustainable infrastructure.
