Turnkey CPP package to support IISCO Steel Plant’s major expansion in West Bengal.

BHEL Secures ₹1,200–1,500 Crore Order for Captive Power Plant from SAIL

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has received a Letter of Acceptance from Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) for a captive power plant (CPP) package at SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal. The order is part of the plant’s 4.08 million tonnes per annum crude steel expansion project and is valued between ₹1,200 crore and ₹1,500 crore, excluding GST. Under the turnkey contract, BHEL will manage the entire scope of work, including design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, transportation, erection, commissioning, and performance guarantee testing of the CPP package, with civil works excluded. The company has been tasked with completing commissioning within 39 months from the effective date of the contract. The order strengthens BHEL’s prominent position in the industrial power segment and demonstrates its capacity to execute large-scale, complex power projects for key sectors such as steel. The project is expected to improve operational efficiency and energy security at the IISCO Steel Plant, supporting SAIL’s long-term growth and capacity expansion plans.
