Ultraviolette Plans $82 Million EV Plant in Tamil Nadu as Demand Surges

New Hosur facility to boost annual capacity to 250,000 vehicles, with expansion potential to 500,000 units.

Indian electric motorcycle maker Ultraviolette Automotive plans to invest ₹779 crore ($81.93 million) over the next five years to establish a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The plant will initially have an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles, which can later be expanded to 500,000 units depending on demand. The facility will complement the company’s existing Bengaluru plant, which can produce up to 50,000 units annually. Rising demand for electric two-wheelers, along with concerns over older petrol vehicles and E20 fuel compatibility, is supporting market growth. Government data shows electric two-wheeler sales crossed 1.03 million units in the first eight months of 2026. Backed by Qualcomm and TVS Motor, Ultraviolette expects domestic scooter demand to reach at least 10,000 units per month. The company plans to fund the investment through internal reserves, equity and future cash flows, with limited debt. Exports currently account for about 15% of sales and could rise to 25% within five years.
