Reliable Power Delivery Will Drive India’s Next Renewable Energy Growth Phase: Ratul Puri.

India’s renewable energy sector must now shift its focus from capacity expansion to reliable power delivery, according to Ratul Puri, Chairman of Hindustan Power. While the country added over 54 GW of renewable energy capacity between April 2025 and March 2026, transmission bottlenecks and grid constraints have limited the effective utilisation of clean power. Data from Ember shows that India curtailed around 300 GWh of renewable energy in the first quarter of 2026 and 2.3 TWh of solar power during May–December 2025 due to inadequate transmission infrastructure and limited grid flexibility. Puri stressed that strengthening transmission networks, deploying Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and enhancing grid management are essential to ensuring renewable electricity reaches consumers efficiently. He said an integrated ecosystem of generation, transmission, storage, and consumption will be critical to achieving India’s long-term clean energy and economic growth goals.
