Kanpur Launches UP’s First City Accelerator to Promote Urban Rooftop Solar.
Kanpur has become the first city in Uttar Pradesh to launch the City Accelerator Program (CAP) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, marking a major step toward promoting rooftop solar in urban areas. The program is being organised by the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) and the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), in collaboration with UP NEDA. The initiative focuses on accelerating rooftop solar adoption, increasing public awareness, and making solar energy more accessible to urban households. At the event, UP NEDA Project Officer Rakesh Pandey highlighted planned awareness campaigns to engage citizens and reduce electricity bills. Chief guest Neelima Kativar emphasised the role of solar energy in combating climate change and ensuring sustainable, affordable energy for the future. Senior officials from the Kanpur Nagar administration, DISCOMs, and other departments also attended the launch, underscoring strong institutional support for the program.
