India is accelerating its clean energy transition by expanding battery energy storage systems, wind, and solar power, Union Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi said at the Times Network Sustainability Conclave 2026 in New Delhi. He noted that India ranked as the world's second-largest in battery storage additions last year and is making significant investments in energy storage, which, alongside renewable energy, is expected to reduce electricity costs. Joshi also highlighted India's first hydrogen-powered train as a milestone in clean transportation. The conclave brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and climate experts to discuss sustainable development, energy security, and climate resilience. Speakers emphasised initiatives such as the Green Hydrogen Mission, PM Surya Ghar Yojana, and advanced battery manufacturing incentives. Industry leaders stressed that clean energy is becoming a strategic economic driver, while experts called for greater climate resilience, sustainable urban planning, and wider rooftop solar adoption to strengthen India's low-carbon future.
